Another work outfit

Wednesday, June 30, 2010

I'm getting worse and worse at coming up with post titles :( That's my un-imaginative brain at work haha. I dug up this old Express skirt from packing prior to my move and had forgotten how comfortable it was! It's lightweight, a blend of linen and cotton -- perfect for summer in the workplace :)

Girly ruffles

Sunday, June 27, 2010

I've been looking for a boyfriend type of long cardigan but haven't had much luck. When I saw this stephanie b cardigan on Hautelook a few weeks ago, I thought it would fit my bill. (I'm still on the hunt for a true boyfriend cardigan though :P) It was a bit tight in the sleeves, but luckily fit everywhere else. I'm new to this brand and had to only rely on the size chart. Since this is pretty much a statement top by itself, I figured to tone down the rest of the outfit.

Oldie but goodie

Friday, June 25, 2010

So many colors go well with khaki bottoms. I especially like baby/French blue and pink. Today's outfit is a super old Abercrombie top that I've had since... college? high school? Way too long ago :) Also paired with it is an old Old Navy skirt and a few new accessories.

top: Abercrombie & Fitch
necklaces: Etsy and Banana Republic
belt: J.Crew (currently sold here)
skirt: Old Navy
flip flops: Old Navy (currently sold here)

J.Crew Pearl and silk wrapped necklace

Friday, June 18, 2010

My apologies ahead of time for another pearl necklace post :) I couldn't help myself when I saw these J.Crew Pearl and silk wrapped necklace (it's on sale now for $19.99! down from $38). I actually thought about buying these to wear with my bridesmaid's dress for a friend's wedding, but I would have to get it in the natural color when urban grey was the color that captured my heart (grey would have clashed w/the dress). But... I decided against wearing it and did not know this necklace actually went on sale until I was at the local J.Crew recently. Ahhh! Imagine my excitement! I was kind of sad to notice that the edges of the silk portion was a bit frayed. I guess that's the look they were going for. Nevertheless, it was on sale and I really wanted it, so I got it :)

On a side note though, I thought I would get an additional 15% off by showing my student ID. But apparently it doesn't work on sale items! C'mon J.Crew!

American Eagle Braided Chain Bracelet

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

For necklaces, I like my pearls. For bracelets, I like the rope effect (as seen previously by my disney couture bracelet) :P I actually hadn't intended on buying this bracelet, but needed a few more dollars to get free shipping from American Eagle haha. I was debating between this bracelet I eventually bought and this Sailor Knot Bracelet.

I eventually decided on this one because I think it would complement my disney couture bracelet well. A bit more rugged and colorful paired with a cleaner and (for lack of better word) prissy one. I have tried this one, and the clasp is easy to get on and off -- one of the reasons I decided to keep it. It's no longer sold on their website anymore, but it might just pop up in your local brick-and-mortar shop.

Edit: After only wearing it for a few hours, the clasp at one end that holds the chain and rope together broke. Wahh!!! I tried braiding it, but it just doesn't look right. Sadly, I'm going to have to return it to the store.

Simply Vera Vera Wang Silver-Tone Cluster Necklace

Sunday, June 13, 2010

I don't have a stock photo of this necklace :( I can't believe it sold out so quickly from the website!! I guess I shouldn't be so surprised because it's simply divine, and not to mention it was on sale :P A matching set of earrings though is still for sale on Kohl's website.

 Edit: Found a stock photo!
Remember how I was a bit disappointed that my Etsy necklace looked more spread out in pictures compared to when it's actually worn? Well, this Simply Vera Vera Wang necklace sure didn't disappoint. It is a bit heavy (after all, look at the size of those pearls! and how many there are). When worn, it didn't have the "pendant" effect as the pearl clusters are definitely spread out. I love my new statement necklace :)

Modeling pics with the necklace coming soon!

Kinda preppy and nautical

Friday, June 11, 2010

Shorts are like jeans, it's so hard to find the perfect one. And for me, nobody does shorts better than American Eagle. Most shorts are too big for me (booo vanity sizing -_-) or the inseam is too long or too short. So today's outfit of the day features one of my favorite shorts :)

top: Abercrombie & Fitch
shorts: American Eagle
belt: Old Navy
necklaces: Etsy and Banana Republic

Look for less: Jimmy Choo Mitsu -> Lauren by Ralph Lauren Aela

Wednesday, June 09, 2010

I doubt shoes would get any more inspired than this! These Lauren by Ralph Lauren Aela sandals (currently sold here) are a dead ringer for Jimmy Choo Mitsu's. The lighting of the pictures are probably different, so the gold tone looks a bit off. Unlike the rsvp Tarans and the Manolo Sedarbys counterpart, I actually saw the Ralph Lauren's first. I'm actually not even sure if the Jimmy Choos are from the current season... so I don't remember how I stumbled across the similarities. Alas, back to the review on the Aelas.

They are quite comfortable. I had known this prior to purchasing based on reviews, so I wasn't too worried. And it's only 3" :P (I can't believe I say only as if I wear heels everyday haha). But I think my above average foot arch might have something to do with it. I love the pale gold of the Aelas and feel that it would actually go well with both gold or silver jewelry. I wore these sandals for the first time at a wedding two weekends ago that lasted 5+ hours of me standing and dancing practically the whole time. I was doing pretty good until we ventured out to take photographs on hilly cobblestone roads -_- All in all though, definitely comfortable and worth it if you're going for the classic, timeless look.

J.Crew silk bouquet sash - part 3

Monday, June 07, 2010

I experimented yet again with J.Crew's silk bouquet sash -- this time as a sash tied right below the bust (see it worn as a necklace here). It was a bit difficult to tie the sash in a way so it doesn't keep slipping down. I had to loop it around me twice, and then sort of tuck and twirl the ends before tying it in a knot. I'm very pleased with the outcome though as I think it adds a nice feminine touch to an otherwise drab outfit :)
